How do robot lawn mowers work without a boundary wire?
Modern wire-free robot mowers navigate with RTK satellite GPS — the same centimeter-accurate positioning used in surveying — fused with onboard AI vision that sees obstacles. You draw virtual boundaries in the app instead of burying a perimeter wire, so there is nothing to dig up, break, or repair.
Are robot lawn mowers worth the money?

How much does a robotic lawn mower cost?
Wire-free GPS models generally run $1,500–$3,500 for residential lawns. Our Segway Navimow X430 (up to 1 acre) is $2,499 and the X450 (up to 1.5 acres) is $2,999. Commercial models like the Segway TerraNox start at $5,499 for up to 3 acres.
What size robot mower do I need for my lawn?
Match the mower's rated capacity to your actual mowable lawn — not your lot size. Side yards, driveways, and beds don't count. As a rule: up to 1 acre → Navimow X430; up to 1.5 acres → X450; 2–6 acres → TerraNox commercial. Our free lawn analysis measures your real acreage from satellite before you buy.
Will a robot mower handle my hills and slopes?
All-wheel-drive models like the Segway Navimow X4 series are built for slopes that would be miserable — or unsafe — to mow by hand. We assess slope severity in every free lawn analysis and will tell you honestly if your terrain is a fit.

Segway Navimow X430 vs X450 — which should I buy?
The X430 handles up to 1 acre and the X450 up to 1.5 acres. Both are all-wheel drive, wire-free, and use the same RTK GPS + AI vision navigation. If your lawn is near the 1-acre line or you want maximum runtime headroom, the X450 is our most popular residential model.
What is the Segway TerraNox, and who is it for?
TerraNox is Segway's commercial-grade robotic mower line. The CM120M1 covers up to 3 acres and the CM240M1 up to 6 acres per mower, with all-wheel drive and fleet management software for multi-mower properties. It's built for HOAs, sports fields, churches, schools, campuses, and commercial landscapers.
How does Segway Navimow compare to Husqvarna Automower?
Both are premium wire-free GPS mowers. The biggest practical difference: Navimow's EFLS navigation fuses RTK satellite positioning with AI vision obstacle detection and with no boundary wire and no buried hardware at your property. Yes. Every Segway mower and accessory ships free to all 50 states with the full Segway manufacturer warranty. In-stock items ship within 3–5 business days — if your model has to come from our distributor, we'll confirm the lead time when you order, or contact us for a shipping estimate first. You also get remote setup support by phone or video from our specialists.
Is financing available?

Professional Installation
Do I need professional installation, or can I set it up myself?
Many owners self-install — there's no perimeter wire to bury. That said, charging-station placement, GPS sky-view, and multi-zone mapping are where most DIY setups go wrong. Professional installation is worth it for lawns over half an acre, sloped or heavily landscaped yards, and anyone who wants it done right the first time.
What does the paid installation service cover?
On-site lawn assessment, digital GPS mapping with virtual boundaries, charging-station placement, complete setup and testing, and a walkthrough of the app before we leave.
How long does installation take?
Most residential installations take 2–4 hours depending on property size and complexity.
Where is professional installation available, and what does it cost?
Installation is available within about a 45-minute drive of our HQ, for an additional fee quoted per property. Outside our service area, every mower includes free remote setup support by phone or video.
Everyday Operation
Does a robot mower cut in the rain?
Yes — they're weatherproof and designed to mow in rain. If you prefer, you can set weather-based scheduling in the app to pause during heavy downpours.
Is it safe around kids and pets?
Yes. Lift and tilt sensors stop the blades instantly if the mower is picked up, plus collision detection and PIN-code security. The small pivoting blades are far less dangerous than a traditional mower blade — and at a rated 68 dB(A) — about as loud as a normal conversation — it can mow at night while everyone sleeps.
Will I still need to trim edges?
Honest answer: mostly no, occasionally yes. The mower cuts close along open edges, but you may still want a string trimmer a few times a season along fences and tight corners.
Does a robot mower make stripes in the lawn?
It makes something better: a carpet. Because it trims a little every day, you get a dense, even, freshly-mowed look all season — the micro-clippings mulch back in and naturally fertilize the lawn.
Can someone steal my robot mower?
Navimow mowers are built to deter theft: GPS tracking shows the mower's location, a PIN code locks it against unauthorized use, and an alarm sounds if it's lifted — making a stolen mower very difficult to use or resell.
Can one mower handle my front and back yards?
Yes. The app supports multiple zones — front, back, side yards — each with its own schedule and cutting height, all mapped as virtual boundaries.
Will it work under trees or in heavy shade?
Tree cover is the one thing to check: dense canopy can weaken the GPS signal RTK navigation relies on. That's exactly what our free satellite lawn analysis looks at — sky-view, slopes, and zones — so you'll know before you buy. Onboard vision helps the mower navigate tricky spots.
Does it need WiFi or a paid subscription?
The mower runs its programmed schedule on its own — no constant connection required. You'll want WiFi or cellular for the app's remote control and monitoring. We'll explain exactly what connectivity your model needs before you buy — no surprises.
Maintenance
What maintenance does a robot mower need?
Very little: swap the small blades every 1–3 months (a five-minute job), rinse off grass buildup monthly, and keep the software updated in the app. We offer maintenance plans if you'd rather never think about it.
How long do the batteries last?
The battery is designed to last for years of typical residential use. When a battery eventually needs replacement, it's a serviceable part — and we service what we sell.
How do I store it in winter?
In cold climates, bring the mower indoors for winter — or let us handle it. Our service plans include winter climate-controlled storage and spring re-commissioning, plus blade changes all year and periodic cleaning and maintenance. Ask us what fits your model.
